Know your State House Representative

Go to NC General Assembly, at this link: Representation - North Carolina General Assembly (ncleg.gov) Click on House, click on “Find your representative”. Type in the physical address of where you live. It will pull up your US House, NC House and NC Senate representatives.  Click on NC House, there will be a box you can click that shows the district for your representative and it will take you to that person’s contact info. The office phone number and email address of your representative may be found there.

HB 188: Standards of Student Conduct, which NCAE opposes and previously reported on, passed the House 71-24 on 4/19 and has been sent to the Senate.
March 2023 - Governor Cooper included the following in his budget for retirees:

For the 2023 budget: a 2% COLA plus a 2% supplement

(As you know, the 2% COLA would provide recurring funds and the 2% supplement would be the same as a one-time bonus.)

NC Supreme Court says judges can't stop partisan gerrymandering

The decision opens the door for the legislature's GOP majority to draw districts that help lock in power at the statehouse, and contribute to Republican power in Congress. The state's high court also decided two long running voting cases Friday, including one on voter ID.

North Carolina Lifetime License

The State Board of Education shall issue a lifetime license, which shall require no renewal, to an individual currently licensed as a professional educator who has met at least one of the following criteria:

  • Completed at least 30 or more years of creditable service with the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System.

  • Completed a combined total of 30 or more years of employment as a licensed teacher, administrator, or student services personnel in one or more public school units in North Carolina.
